Highclere Castle

Highclere Castle, Hampshire

Highclere Castle is a Grade I listed country house in Hampshire. It dates back to the 1700s but was renovated extensively in the 19th century. The castle is built in the intricate and mesmerising Jacobethan style and is finished in Bath Oolite stone.

The gardens of Highclere castle are a sight to behold and were designed by the famous Georgian landscape architect Capability Brown, who is also famous for his work on Bowood, Belenheim Palace, Stowe and Chatsworth house.

Recently, Highclere Castle has become famous as the main location set for the hugely successful TV & Film period drama, Downton Abbey. The castle is the residence of Lord and Lady Canarvon and is open to visitors for daily tours, afternoon tea, gifts and special events.
