Oxford is one of the most historically significant cities in the world. Obviously it’s known as a place of academic excellence, boasting one of the world’s most prestigious and oldest Universities. It’s also known as a hub for groundbreaking research and development in technology and bioscience.
Similar to Cambridge, history hides around every corner and the University vibe seeps into ever brick and stone of the city’s sublime architecture. Oxford was originally an Anglo-Saxon settlement but became known for academia as early as the 12th century. Some of the most famous and iconic academic buildings are found in Oxford, including the Bodleian Library and the Radcliffe Camera.
Oxford is also brimming with some of the best museums outside of London, including the Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers to name but a few.
Due to its large student population, Oxford has an excellent nightlife with many craft pubs, restaurants and bars. It is also known for offering up a great shopping experience.
